Samsung today unveiled what could be a breakthrough in its flash memory for handhelds. A new multi-chip package contains 512 megabits of PRAM (phase change RAM) and would potentially make writing to memory three times faster than it is with the existing NOR flash often used on mobile devices. The advancement could greatly speed up transferring music, photos and videos to smartphones and MP3 players.
