According to XBitLabs, Intel might be planning a radical strategy on the SSD market, expected to be unveiled by the end of the year. First, the founder would stop using SLC chips (the fastest but lowest density) and only use MLC chips even in Pro-oriented SSD models. So future X25-E would be based on 34 nm engraved MLC chips. The Pro models will be available with storage space ranging from 100 to 400 GB. Intel would then make a choice similar to the one followed in SandForce-based controller SSD models: keep around 20 of the storage space for replacing dead or defective memory chips, to improve reliability of data. Future SSD models dedicated to the customer market would offer capacity from 160 GB to 600 GB with also 1.8" SSD with 300 GB storage space
