NEC announced to have developed new technologies able to triple the already fast USB 3.0 speed. Under the name of SuperSpeed, it can control interference between data packs moving through the bus, and so increasing density and throughput rate. This is achieved by analyzing signals coming through the port, and the chips performs an 'adaptive equalization" aiming to correct distortion and improve performance.NEC might already have a prototype with USB 3.0 port able to deliver up to 16 Gbits/s vs. 4.8 Gbits/s without the distortion correction technology. The company is now going to find customers, especially all port Alliance defining bus protocols (USB, PCI-Express and maybe Firewire) as they could simply integrate it in their specifications/products, and increase available bandwidth.
