Mobile World Congress: Announcement of Partnerships to Compete Against Apple and Google
Nokia and Intel announced the merger of their Linux-based platforms, respectively Maemo and Moblin, to create an unique one named Meego. Both partners have interest in such agreement as Nokia will start having support from the hardware side, while Intel will find a way to increase penetration of its CPU and hardware solution in mobile phones, via collaboration with the world leader on the market. This agreement is for sure coming as an answer after of success of Apple, and the move from Google into the mobile market with Android and Nexus One.
On the software side, several carriers announced an agreement to offer a Apple-free AppStore-like solution, aiming to bypass Cupertino for also getting a piece of the huge and growing market of online application stores. Among those carriers, AT&T, Orange and Telefonica, the latest are 2 major players in the field in Europe.
