Research reveals why publishers want an Apple tablet
Kids today, eh? Well, it seems today’s youth truly are ‘digital natives’, spending around 53 hours each week accessing electronic media - that’s everything from computer games, iPods, phones and more.
A Kaiser Family Foundation survey of 2,002 people aged 8 to 18 reveal that young people spend seven hours and 38 minutes using media in a typical day - up from six hours and 19 minutes ten years ago.
Electronic media is now "a part of the air that kids breathe," says Vicky Rideout, director of Kaiser's Program for the Study of Media and Health. "Anything that takes up this much time, we really do need to think about it and talk about it."
The research reveals some statistics which could explain publishing’s move to embrace the Apple tablet:
