Freescale to Launch TouchScreen Tablets
For those of you who knew the Mac before the Intel CPU era, you will probably remember Freescale, known as the spin-off CPU division from Motorola. The last Freescale CPU in our Mac was the G4 for PowerBook. While Apple decided to work with Intel, ways followed by Apple and Freescale could cross again, however not as partners but competitors. Indeed, Freescale just announced its goal to launch touchscreen tablet:
Featuring a 7" touchscreen and a Freescale i.MX515 CPU based on ARM Cortex A8, the tablet will weight 376 grammes and should cost around 200 USD. Despite this aggressive pricing, it will support 3G and Wi-Fi n networks, Bluetooth, it will sport a webcam and have 512 MB of RAM. If current rumors about forthcoming tablets from Apple turn true (size and pricing), the version from Freescale could be a really cheaper alternative.
