According to a recent study, the iPhone might have captures as much as 46% of the Smartphone market share in Japan. We are a bit surprise by such figures, as it would imply that a non-Japanese companies might have taken the lead on this segment, in front of the local Japanese giants!? It is clear that Sony is having trouble on this market to release mobile phone models able to compete with the iPhone, or other models from Korean Samsung and LG. The main key driver of this success might be linked to the App Store as numerous Japanese developers offer specific and localized applications, aiming to answer needs from this market. this is the main problem for Apple's competitors as they came only later with their own online application stores, and can not really provide equivalent choice and services.
