The arrival of the iMac Core i7 has created difficulties to the range of Mac Pro. In the majority of the tests, the iMac has proved to be at least as fast as Mac Pro with 4 cores, which is not surprising, since the structure of the two machines is very similar, certainly too similar in the eyes of some.However a test by Barefeats gives the honours to the Mac Pro again. It is a test of the memory bandwidth where Mac Pro are nearly 3 times faster than the iMac. This is not surprising. Mac Pro can use simultaneously 3 channels of memory and as many memory bars while the iMac has only two. The memory speed of iMac is "only" 4.8GT/s, against 6.4GT/s for Mac Pro. Another test carried out under After effect watch shows that the 4 CPU Mac Pro is 25% faster than the iMac Core i7.
