In a rather surprising move, AT&T announced that it will allow third party iPhone application for internet telephone services (also known as VoIP). This change is probably coming as an answer to the complaint filed by Skype to the FCC regarding limitations applied by AT&T for its iPhone application on AT&T network. This comes also comes after the removal of Google Voice from the AppStore. In EU, iPhone owners will follow carefully developments of such stories as it could mark the sign of a revolution that could push EU carriers to adopt a similar policy regarding VoIP. On the other side, 3G networks are already saturated, and one can not really imagine how authorizing internet telephone services might improve the reliability and quality of such networks
