Following Palm and now Dell, Sony has presented its technology for the transmission of power without using wires. It is more ambitious; they obtained in the laboratory a transfer over 50 cm or up to 80 cm with an extension unit.
Contrary to other technologies, the system does not function via induction, but uses magnetic resonance (a bit like MRI, the medical imaging considered to be without any dangers). The advantage is important a metal object placed in the field would not be heated contrary to the systems using induction.
