Preview of Intel X25-M 160 GB Postville SSD
While announced earlier this summer, the new Intel X25-M based on 34-nm engraved memory chips is only available now due to a problem with the first firmware. We could get a 160 GB model.
Announced with a thickness of 9.5 mm, it is in fact even thinner (7.5 mm) and feature a plastic holder to get the standard size. Of course, we could not resist, and we disassembled it and compare it with the previous generation of Intel X25-M, a 80 GB model:
The new model is on the right side. As you can clearly see it, the old SSD used 20 chips of 4 GB each, while the new X25-M features 10 chips of 16 GB each. By adding 10 new chips, Intel could offer a X25-M with a storage capacity of 320 GB; it should be available by the end of the year, or Q1 2010.
