This is a day for numerous announcements related to plate-based HDs. Western Digital now announced its new models of 3.5" HD. Offering a storage capacity of up to 2 TB (WD2001FASS), the Caviar Black series, unlike the already release Green models spinning at 5400 rpm, are offering 7200 rpm for delivering higher performance levels.
With a cache of up to 64 MB, those drives sports 2 CPU responsible for managing data flow and avoid any bottleneck effects. This new models also features the Dual actuator technology, allowing a better positioning of the head of the disc thanks to both electromagnetic and piezoelectric systems; however, it is only available on the high-end model with 2 TB storage space. The warranty on those products is set to 5 years.
