Rapex Procedure Activated by the EC about Cases of Broken iPhone Screens in Europe
The story started last week in the south of France when a local newspaper reported the case of a teenager injured by his iPhone, cut close to his eye. A similar case is reported couple of days later in Marseille. While the implicated iPhones are now in judge's hands for the usual on-going investigation, photos available of the broken iPhone glass screen do not really provide any convincing hints to balance between two hypothesis: a true issue or an iPhone owner trying to get his broken device exchanged for free. Only the expertise to be conducted by legal authorities will have to be considered.
In the past, few dozen of cases of burning or exploding iPods have been reported in Japan, USA and more recently in UK, however, it remains a really small number when taking into accounts dozens of millions of iPod and iPhones being used worldwide everyday.
