Mac users can enable their screens to flash for alerts that normally are relayed via sounds. This action can be activated in the Universal Access portion of System Preferences and exists to help people with hearing challenges while using a Mac. Occasionally, even though this setting is subsequently deactivated, users find that the screen continues to flash.
