Sometimes, iTunes is unable to find media items when searching the music folder. This, generally, occurs directly following a fresh installation of iTunes or after a software update. Similar issues arise when a user moves their iTunes Music folder on their hard drive. Generally, iTunes will see the music, but will not be able to play it (adding an exclamation point icon next to the song).
