Express Card 2.0 format was announced earlier this year. To evolve with other formats, it will adopt USB 3.0 and PCI-Express 2.0, both formats being backwards compatible, Express Card will be too.
So, current extension cards based on Express Card 1.x format will be fully functional when the Express Card 2.0 format will be launched in 2010. If current applications of Express Card format in such as DBT card or memory reader will not really benefit from faster transfer speed associated with the version 2.0 of this format, eSATA card might make good usage of higher performance level.
It is about time for Mac users that Apple update Mac OS X to let us start from external drives connected to Mac hardware via eSATA.
