Downgrading an iPhone From iOS 17 to iOS 16 is No Longer Possible

Following the release of iOS 17.0.3 earlier today, Apple has stopped signing iOS 16.6.1, iOS 17, and iOS 17.0.1, preventing iPhone users from downgrading to any of those software versions. Apple continues to sign iOS 17.0.2 for now. Notably, this means that it is no longer possible to downgrade an iPhone from iOS 17 to iOS 16, as iOS 16.6.1 was the final iOS 16 version for iPhones compatible with iOS 17. iOS 16.7, which remains signed, was only released for older iPhones. Apple routinely stops signing older iOS releases over time in order to prevent users from downgrading to previous software versions. iOS 17.1 is expected to be released later this month.Related Roundups: iOS 17, iPadOS 17Related Forums: iOS 17, iPadOS 17, iOS 16This article, "Downgrading an iPhone From iOS 17 to iOS 16 is No Longer Possible" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
