It’s really complicated (/s). On an iPad, you open Pixelmator and tap the “+” icon at the top right, then “Photos” at the bottom right. That opens a photo browser. You select a picture to edit and edit it. The process was a little different, but no more difficult, in prior versions of the app.
In my experience, Pixelmator has most of the features of Photoshop at a fraction of the cost. A professional at Photoshop might differ. As an amateur, I found the Pixelmator interface much more intuitive than the versions of Photoshop I used from 1990 to 2010 or so.
