The iPod Touch is available again and shipping within days. To ensure that the dark display issue we reported about couple of weeks ago is now fixed with this new production series, we tested a brand new unit with the iPhone by playing a video mixing extensively bright and dark session, with deep contrast.
Images displayed by the iPod Touch and the iPhone are almost identical; the iPod delivers slightly "warmer" colors. Even when the image is dark and heavily contrasted, there is not this leaky dark display issue seen in early iPod touch series:
