Bitponics personal gardening assistant eyes-on (video)
Plants need TLC just like any other living thing, but sadly, they're not really great at telling you what they want. Bitponics is looking to take a bit of that guess work out of hydroponic and aquaponic gardens with a WIFi base station that monitors your plant life and connects to automated accessories that help you care for them. The device ships with monitors for pH, water temperature, air temperature, humidity and light, connecting to the company's Bitponics Cloud system, so you can monitor things remotely via web browser.
The system's not cheap -- it's set to run $499 when it ships, fittingly, this spring. Check out a video walkthrough of the system just after the break.Gallery:

Eyes-on with Ninja Blocks 'home automation for hackers' (video)
Yet another Kickstarter success story is here on the Hardware Alley Floor at TechCrunch Disrupt. Ninja Blocks look a fair bit different than they used to, however -- the 3D-printed case has been traded up for something that looks a lot more like a final, saleable product. In fact, it looks a little like a router or an external hard drive, albeit one with color-changing ninja eye

iPhone on MetroPCS Not Imminent After T-Mobile Merger

How to turn off Google Now and keep your battery charged
Google has recently added its Google Now service into its search app for iOS, but there's one big drawback to getting constant weather, traffic, and other local information on your phone: Location Services runs constantly. You can tell by the little arrow icon up in the corner of your home screen. Usually, that service only flips on when your phone needs to know where it is, but Google can be greedy with that information, keeping your Location Services on all the time, and thus draining your iPhone's battery much faster than it would otherwise.
So what's the solution? Inside Apple's Settings app, you can manually turn off Location Services for each app that uses it. So if you want to keep Google Now f

iHome had a mostly winning chassis with the iD50, so it hasn’t changed much for iDL45: the shape remains an extruded rounded rectangle modified with a slanted front face, such that a larger base tapers upwards to a modestly smaller top surface. Fabric still covers the front speakers, matte black plastic is used for almost all of the rest of the body, and metallic side accents give the design extra character. Apple Engineers Working Overtime on iOS 7's 'DeForstallization'
Under the direction of Jony Ive, who took charge of Apple's user interface teams last October, iOS 7's redesign is said to be "flatter" with fewer skeuomorphic design cues and an interface that focuses on simplicity. Skeuomorphism, a real-world design concept that was favored by former Apple senior vice president of iOS software Scott Forstall, is found in many of Apple's default iOS apps. For example, apps like Notes and Find My Friends both feature leather design accents and Game Center offers up a felt pool table texture. These are all elements that are expected to be removed in iOS 7, as

The steady demise of Apple's iPod
Apple last week released its earnings for the March quarter and posted revenue of US$43.6 billion along with a quarterly net profit of $9.5 billion. Product wise, the company sold 37.4 million iPhones, 19.5 million iPads, and 5.63 million iPods.
All in all, another impressive quarter from Apple. But one data point in particular that jumped out at me was just how insignificant the iPod has become to Apple's bottom line. In the quarter gone by, Apple's iconic MP3 player accounted for a paltry 2.2% of Apple's quarterly revenue.
Meanwhile, the iPhone and iPad together comprised 72.5% of Apple's Q2 revenue.
Think about that for a second --

However, Apple Stores, particularly rode side ones, are well known for having minimalist, sometimes understated fronts. Both the Regent Street and Covent Garden Apples stores in London come to mind.
