Newer MacBook Airs shipping with faster Samsung SSDs

Apple was found on Friday to have given a low-key but significant speed boost to the solid-state drives in newer MacBook Air production runs. Most batches have been using Toshiba's X-Gale SSD, but AnandTech saw a more recent model using what's likely a Samsung-made 470 series drive. Skype bestätigt Android-Sicherheitslücke

Filed under: Android Private Daten wie Telefonnummern, Namen und Chat-Logs sind in Skype nicht ausreichend geschützt. Entwickler Justin Case stieß auf Sicherheitslücken, als er eine im Netz aufgetauchte Version von Skype Video unter die Lupe nahm. Unity Corporation releases Xtion Pro PC motion sensor in Japan

Toshiba's Honeycomb tablet to be dubbed ANT, start at $450?

Feel free to ingest this with a healthy helping of salt for now, but if a spate of Newegg product listings are to be believed, Toshiba's heretofore unnamed Honeycomb tablet will boast a tremendously unflattering moniker: ANT. Priced at $449.99, $499.99 and $579.99, the Tegra 2-powered slate is seemingly dubbed ANT-100, ANT-102 and ANT-104. Each one includes Android 3.0, a 10.1-inch panel (1280 x 800) and NVIDIA silicon, with the extra dollars on the latter two changing that 8GB of internal storage to 16GB or 32GB. White iPhone 4 pops up in Verizon stock systems

Hints of the white iPhone 4 getting close reached a new high on Friday after the models were spotted in Verizon's inventory system. Two unnamed but distinctly Apple-patterened SKUs have shown up, MC677LL/A and MC679LL/A, that have 16GB and 32GB respectively of storage. Based on 9to5's sources for the sighting and the recognizable names for every other Apple device in the system, they should only be the new iPhone 4 versions since each is one SKU digit above its black equivalent.

Apple is taking more cues from iOS devices in applying a re-think to the way Lion handles Dashboard, Exposé, Spaces and their relationship to trackpads and gestures, AppleInsider reports. Google beefs up mobile privacy controls on iOS, Android

Even as Google has opted to start using mobile handset "unique device identifiers" (UDIDs) in its mobile advertising efforts, the company will simultaneously roll out new privacy controls and add the ability for users to opt-out of UDID tracking, Search Engine Land reports. Most other mobile ad networks have been using UDID tracking for some time, prompting a grand jury investigation and calls for legislation to protect personally-identifiable consumer information from being misused.

Best Buy iPad 2 promo leaks, reveals low stock for April 17

Best Buy's decision to hold iPad 2 stock for a special promo was explained in full on Friday after a store memo gave away its plans. The event in question is just a typical promotion for its April 17 flyer and will see stores carrying at least three iPads this coming Sunday. The version of the memo Engadget obtained had the offline reserve system turned on so shoppers could commit to an iPad outside of the usual schedule, although staff purchases were turned on and could see some of the supply already spoken for before the store opens.

When Apple came out with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, the company unveiled a whole new version of QuickTime Player (and also jumped a couple of version numbers in the process -- going from "7" to "X," or ten). MountMe has announced an all-in-one carrying and mounting case, Freedom for iPad 2. It is geared for a number of surfaces, with a mounting bracket that can be adapted with suction cups or straps.
