Another patent application by Apple seeks to prevent damage to devices, by using self-healing elastomer layers to plug gaps that can let in moisture. The application for an "Electronic device with hidden connector" explains a way ports in an iPhone or another device can allow for cables to be connected, but to still have all potential water ingress points to be blocked off when the cable is unplugged from its socket.
