New NDK lets Android 4.0 catch up to iOS in streaming audio

Google late Friday posted a basic but potentially significant update to the Native Development Kit for Android 4.0. The change gives it a new programming interface based on Khronos' OpenMAX AL standard that lets an app get full, low-level access to an audio stream. The change lets a developer introduce their own decryption and encryption, giving the option of truly universal copy protection or otherwise secure audio.
