Ultrabooks may put squeeze on mainstream notebook prices

Intel's ultrabook category might see Windows PC vendors forced to lower their regular notebook prices to make them seem viable, retailers feared on Tuesday. While ultraportables on average cost about $1,200 versus the $800 many of these companies are used to, plans by ASUS, Acer, and others to start ultrabooks at $799 might put their plans into jeopardy. They may have to cut prices just to avoid a conflict and unsold stock, Digitimes heard.
