RedMere gave a preview on Tuesday of a prototype cable that could greatly simplify HDMI video out without using the official Digital AV Adapter. A new controller chip has led to a straight Dock-Connector-to-HDMI cable that would give the iPad 2, iPhone 4, and current iPod touch true HD video and audio out. Its cable wouldn't provide the power of the Apple cable, but RedMere explained to CNET that the design would be thinner, more flexible, and lighter than typical HDMI wires.
