Skype on Wednesday confirmed that it was facing a rare outage and provided a brief explanation. VoIP callers are either unable to sign in or else are being knocked off the network as they can't connect to the "supernodes" needed for calls. Certain versions of Skype can't see the nodes and thus have a hard time making or sustaining a connection, the company said.
