GMA HD: The Good and The Bad

The website Bit-Tech published a long and detailed article, comparing the GMA HD, the integrated graphical chipset found in Arrendale chips, to other chipsets such as the GeForce 9400M.The Good news: the GMA HD delivers  much better performance levels than its predecessor, especially for video. IT handles H.264 even better than the GF 9400M, while requiring less CPU load. When playing a BD media, it drains as much power as the GF 9400M. The bad news, as one should have expected it, things get not as good as you decide to play 3D games with the GMA HD, and differences is then quite substantial. This chipset is 30 to 40% slower than the GF 9400M currently installed in our MacBook. Of course, this is not the same performance than the GMA 950 or 3100, but for sure it is way below the GF 9400M, making it an almost no go for a GMA HD-only equipped MacBook. Apple w
