Vodafone takes on TomTom with free satNav iPhone app, shifts 50k iPhones

Vodafone began offering the iPhone to its UK customers today, and seems off to a strong start - it despatched 50,000 units to customers pre-ordering the device today. Vodafone joins Orange, O2 and Tesco Mobile in offering Apple’s increasingly popular smartphone to UK customers. Vodafone customers will have unlimited texts with all contracts, from £30-a-month, right up to the £75 top-end contacts. This is a first for the iPhone, aside from Orange's £125-a-month deal. Vodafone has also made its Vodafone Navigation application available from the Apple iTunes App Store. This offers turn-by-turn navigation, with voice instructions and speed camera alerts, for any location in the UK. Free to use until April, the app costs £
