TSMC always has difficulties with 40nm engraving

TSMC is certainly the largest foundry of made-to-order chips. Its customers submits a design and asks them to manufacture the corresponding products. This is, for example, the case of the graphic chipmakers who buy wafers of manufactured chips. TSMC has had, since the start of engraving in 40 nm, big problems that are still not fully solved. Currently, only 40% of the production are viable. Thus the 60% remainder of chips engraved in 40 nm are thrown in the trash, which creates large problems with NVidia and AMD. AMD has since announced that it was going to increase by $20 the price of Radeon HD 5850; due to the scarcity of this product, their full production can be sold without problem.  It is possible that Apple is also affected since some speak about a custom chip for their Mac Tablet. Thus, there is a chance that it is also TSMC who produces this chip, and doubtless in 40 nm to minimise the power consumption, a point on which Apple would have been very demanding. But this is, of course, onl
