Sotheby's auctioning off special Jony Ive designed Product (RED) Mac Pro
The entry level Mac Pro will set you back about $2,999, but If you've got much deeper pockets you might want to take a look at this one-of-a-kind Product (RED) Mac Pro that was custom designed by both Jony Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson.
The candy red and super sleek Mac Pro will be up for auction at Sotheby's and is expected to fetch any where between $40,000 and $60,000. The auction is set to kick off on November 23 at 7 PM.

Shooting a feature-length movie with an iPad: "Curtis & Dave Are Dead"
John Gibson is a driven moviemaker who has made a feature length movie using a 3rd generation iPad as the camera. The movie deals with death and the supernatural, and the video is supposed to look like it was made by the characters who were planning to upload it to YouTube.
The film, called Curtis & Dave Are Dead, takes place on a farm in rural Ohio. Gibson loved the big screen of the iPad because his actors could view their scenes right away. Audio was provided by a Rode microphone plugged into the iPad. Almost all the movie was shot on the iPad, but for scenes where a wide angle lens was needed a Sony camera was used.

OS X Mavericks: Schneller im Launchpad suchen
Mit dem Launchpad soll zwar mehr Ordnung in den App-Alltag kommen, doch zur Sicherheit enthält Mavericks dennoch eine Suchfunktion. Warum Apple an den oberen Bildschirmrand ein Suchfeld eingefügt hat, ist allerdings fraglich. Denn für die alphabetische Suche ist ein Klick in diese überhaupt nicht notwendig.Denn um eine App im Launchpad zu suchen, kann direkt mit der Eingabe eines Buchstabens begonnen werden, ohne dass erst in das Suchfeld geklickt werden muss. Wer eine Ouya besitzt oder ausprobiert hat, kennt die Tücken des Controllers, beispielsweise klemmende Buttons. Auch Firmengründerin Julie Uhrman ist sich der Probleme bewusst. Wie sie in einem Interview mit Polygon verriet, ist die Produktion einer verbesserten Version des Ouya Controllers bereits in vollem Gange. Die Wii Mini wird es aber weiterhin geben, eingestellt wird nur die klassische Wii. Nur in den USA werden die Wiis auch zur Weihnachtszeit noch erhältlich sein.

Amazon bietet ab sofort auch Spiele ab USK 18 als Download an. Dazu braucht ihr einen deutschen Personalausweis, die Identifizierung erfolgt über die oben markierten Nummern, also die Personalausweiskennziffern. Aus denen lässt sich eigentlich auch das Ablaufdatum eindeutig ablesen, wir konnten allerdings problemlos mit einem abgelaufenen Personalausweis runterladen. Außerdem ist es, zumindest für die "alten" Persos bis 2011, relativ einfach, sich illegalerweise online eine vermeindlich echte Kennziffer zu besorgen. Mal sehen, wie lang Amazon das Identifizierungssystem beibehält.

Beginner-friendly Linux distro SolusOS to shut down
Developer Ikey Doherty announced this week that work on SolusOS, a Debian-based distro aimed at beginning Linux users, would come to a halt.The solo nature of the project eventually became too much for Doherty, he wrote in an official blog post. Android Roundup: Samsung takes its medicine in astroturfing, defective phone flap
Samsung made a lot of headlines this week, though probably not for the reasons it would like.The South Korean company got roundly chewed out by Chinese state media over an apparent manufacturing oversight that saw defective memory make it into Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones sold in that country. What's more, the China Central Television report said, Samsung failed to live up to warranty promises and provided bad customer service. Apple, Google and Others Set to Face Trial Over Anti-Poaching Agreements
U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh ruled yesterday that Apple, Google and several other large tech companies will face a trial over "no solicitation" agreements that prevented the companies from attempting to hire away each others' employees, reports Bloomberg. The suit represents software and hardware engineers, programmers, animators, digital artists, Web developers and other technical professionals, according to the ruling. Turn your iPhone into a high-power digital microscope for around $10
There are few things I like more than seeing someone come up with a startlingly low-cost solution to an otherwise expensive problem. Instructables user Yoshinok has done just that by turning a few pieces of Plexiglas, a laser pointer and an iPhone into a highly capable digital microscope. Regional carriers announce plans to carry iPad Air
For the first time, Apple's LTE-capable iPad will be available on regional carriers. Specifically, both C Spire Wireless and Bluegrass Cellular will begin selling the iPad Air sometime in the next few weeks. C Spire Wireless is based out of Mississippi with coverage that encompasses a number of Southern states such as Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Bluegrass Cellular, meanwhile, is based out of Kentucky.
Details as to pricing and specific launch dates haven't yet been made available, but we'll keep you posted when more details emerge.
The iPad Air will officially go on sale on November 1, with Apple retail stores set to open one hour early to accommodate

For their upcoming Sotheby's charity auction to benefit Product (RED), Apple senior vice president of design Jony Ive and designer Marc Newson have created a one-of-a-kind Mac Pro, featuring the new Mac Pro's radical cylindrical design with a shiny red finish that matches the style of other Product (RED) items produced by Apple.
