70 iOS 7 and Legacy Tips, Tricks and Secrets
TUAW has been providing you with some hints and tricks about iOS 7, but there are a lot more cool tips that we haven't even touched upon. It's About Time Products, which has been in the business of making Macs and iOS devices understandable for quite a few years, has just come out with a wonderful iBook titled "70 iOS 7 and Legacy Tips, Tricks and Secrets" (US$1.99, on sale for a limited time for $0.99).

iPhone 5 Touch Screen Twice as Fast as Android Touch Screen
The iPhone's touch screen has a much faster response time than its Android and Windows counterparts, according to a new set of TouchMark benchmarks from cloud streaming company Agawi. Using a 240fps high frame rate camera along with a custom-built device called a Touchscope, Agawi measured the App Response Time (ART) of several different smartphones. The ART is the latency experienced between the time a user touches the device display to the device’s on-screen response. Apple’s iPhone demonstrated a minimum app response time (MART) of 55 milliseconds, a much better performance than the Galaxy S4, which had a MART of 114ms. The Lumia 928 had a similar high MART time of 117ms, and the iPhone 5's closest competitor was the iPhone 4, with a MART of 85. The HTC One and the Moto X had the highest MART times, coming in at 121 and 123ms, respectively.

NASA ends Deep Impact comet-hunting mission after eight years
After more than eight years, NASA's comet-hunting Deep Impact mission has come to an abrupt close. The agency has stopped trying to communicate with the mission probe after losing contact on August 8th. It's not clear what went wrong, but NASA suspects that it may have lost orientation control, guaranteeing that the Deep Impact vehicle would lose power and freeze. Heute vor genau einem Jahr erklimmte die Apple-Aktie einen historischen Wert — der Kurs von Apples Wertpapier notierte bei 705.07 US-Dollar. Am gleichen Tag kam in den USA, UK, Deutschland und anderen Märkten das iPhone 5 auf den Markt — zwei Tage zuvor wurde iOS 6 mit den neuen Apple-Karten veröffentlicht. AAPL stellte an jenem Tag ein Allzeithoch auf, Apples Marktkapitalisierung betrug am 21. September 2012 unglaubliche 656.27 Milliarden US-Dollar. Innerhalb von nur 10 Monaten verdoppelte sich der Wert einer Apple-Option. Sony subventioniert Hardware der PlayStation 4

Noch ein iOS 7-Bug: Telefonieren trotz gesperrtem iPhone
Der zweite iOS 7-Lockscreen-Bug ist aufgetaucht. Er ermöglicht Anrufe trotz gesperrtem iPhone, und zwar nicht nur Notrufnummern. Karam Daoud hat bei Forbes ein Video eingereicht, das den simplen Trick demonstriert: Man wählt zuerst auf dem Lockscreen "Notfall" aus, wählt dann eine beliebige Nummer und tippt so lange schnell auf die grüne Anruftaste, bis plötzlich ein schwarzer Bildschirm mit Apple-Logo im Zentrum erscheint und der Anruf durchgestellt wird. Von Apple gibt es bislang dazu noch keinen Kommentar.

Apple veröffentlicht Apple TV 6.0 Update [Downloadlinks]

Apple veröffentlicht neue Software für Apple TV
Mit Version 6.0 hat Apple in der Nacht auf heute das Betriebssystem der Settop-Box «Apple TV» aktualisiert. Das neue System bietet diverse neue Funktionen.
Mit «AirPlay aus iCloud» werden neu Inhalte aus «iTunes in the Cloud» über Apple TV statt über ein iOS-Gerät wiedergeben. Dabei wird das Video zwar vom iOS-Gerät her diktiert, jedoch wird das Video vollständig auf Apple TV gestreamed, und nicht via iOS-Gerät auf Apple TV. Dadurch wird Bandbreite gespart da nicht zwei Streams laufen müssen. Die Funktion lässt sich mit einer Funktion in Googles Chromecast vergleichen. Bei Apple TV muss diese Funktion jedoch zuerst aktiviert werden und verhält sich nicht Standardmässig so. Dies hat insbesondere den Vorteil, dass auf iOS-Geräten Streams sofort starten, während Apple TV zuerst einen relativ grossen Buffer füllt, bevor der Stream anfängt zu laufen.
Neu kann via Apple TV auch die Musik-Abteilung des iTunes Stores durchsucht werden — natürlich gibt es die Möglichkeit dabei Titel

Massive Verluste: BlackBerry streicht 4500 Stellen

Sen. Franken seeks data on privacy controls in iPhone 5s fingerprint tech

iOS 7 after a couple of days
Our brains are pattern-making machines. When our patterns are disrupted, it takes some time to build new pathways and embrace the future. So it is with iOS 7, Apple's first major overhaul of its iPhone operating system (now iOS) since the iPhone debuted in 2007. I wrote up some very quick impressions as I used iOS 7 in New York, but here's what it's like a few days in.
Music
Music and sound has always been a part of the Apple experience. After a couple of days of using iTunes Radio I don't know if I will use my other music apps nearly as much. That's not to say Pandora, Slacker, TuneIn, Spotify, Rdio or other services don't have value. They absolutely do, but the integration, polish and choice available on iTunes Radio is going to quickly gain mind share in the market.

A series of unfortunate events at the Pasadena Apple Store today
Today was an exciting day at the Apple Store in Pasadena, California as the launch of the new iPhone 5s and 5c turned ugly. The L.A. Times is reporting that at least 200 people were waiting in front of the store this morning for a chance to buy one of the new phones when several fights broke out.
Two people, ages 23 and 43, were arrested for fighting in line outside of the store before it even opened. Then around 9 a.m. another fight started, this time involving a contender for worst person in the world. With iOS 7 officially out of the bag, there are no shortage of tips coming in highlighting many of the new tweaks users can expect to see in Apple's new mobile OS.

Aardman's Full Steam Ahead edu-app shows great promise, early flaws
You know Aardman Animations, don't you? Cheese? Gromit? Were-Rabbits? They've teamed with the Science Museum and Brunel's s Great Britain to create Full Steam Ahead, a free educational app that teaches children about ship design.
In each stage of the app, you're presented with a basic design. It's up to you to iteratively improve that design -- whether for load bearing or stability, and so forth -- to learn about a basic underlying engineering concept.
