Jessica Lessing (früher beim Wall Street Journal) sorgt jetzt für Aufregung mit einem Artikel in dem sie aus sicheren Quellen wissen will, dass das "kommende" Amazon Smartphone vor allem eins sein soll: Umsonst. Judgment in ebook case limits Apple's deals, appoints external monitor

VLC 2.1 for iOS adds audio-only playback, streaming over FTP and UPnP
VLC returned to iOS with big upgrades like AirPlay and Dropbox integration, but it left out a few of the very valuable features we've seen in other media players. Study finds app ratings now more critical to rankings than ever before
We knew Apple was tweaking its algorithms for ranking top apps, but a new report by app-testing firm Appurify gives us a much better idea of just how heavily weighted ratings are becoming.
The company's study examines at the ratings of the top 1,000 apps on the App Store. Perhaps not surprisingly, the results show that more than half of the top 1,000 apps have a rating of at least 4.5 out of 5 stars, with 75% scoring 4 stars or higher.
More interesting, however, is that the higher an app is placed in the charts, the more the ratings seem to matter. For example, in order to reach the top 300 of all apps in the marketplace, you're going to need hundreds of 4.5- and 5-star reviews every single day, but the crite

Prong PocketPlug might be the most innovative iPhone 5 case of 2013
I've reviewed hundreds of cases and turned down requests to review thousands more. But when the good folks at Prong pitched the PocketPlug case for iPhone 5 (US$69.95), I jumped on the opportunity to review it. Why? Well, I've seen cases and battery cases, but never have I seen a case that actually connects directly to a wall socket for charging your iPhone. The Clear Day Screensaver for Mac is pretty and useful
I've always felt that a screensaver should be useful and attractive. Clear Day Screensaver for Mac is both. This US$1.99 app lets you view the weather in over 2.5 million cities via a beautifully rendered globe. Information includes the current weather, three-hour predictions, and the forecast for the following day.
Clouds are also accurately displayed, along with the current time in either 12- or 24-hour format. Temperature can be displayed in Fahrenheit for Celsius.
I gave the app a spin on my Mac Pro with a 30-inch screen. Animation was smooth, and the forecasts and current conditions displayed matched up with other information I found from typical sources. I searched for some more obscure, small towns which the app found via zip cod

iOS 7 May Include iPhone Support for iBooks Textbooks [iOS Blog]
It appears that Apple plans to include support for iBooks Textbooks on the iPhone and the iPod touch with the launch of iOS 7. As noted by 9to5Mac, the iOS 7 App Store includes a new "iBooks Textbooks" section in the educational category. The section is currently unpopulated, but it does contain the framework for future textbook offerings.
