iTunes Festival für September in London angekündigt
Apple gab am Mittwoch bekannt, dass das alljährliche iTunes Festival wieder im September in London stattfinden wird. Im Roundhouse werden mehr als 60 Künstler an 30 Abenden auftreten. Mars pebbles prove that rivers altered the planet's surface
Scientists already had an inkling that water helped form the landscape on Mars, but they're now ready to confirm that claim. Ireland says it has no special "tax deal" with Apple; Senators Levin and McCain dispute claim
Despite claims to the contrary, Ireland Ambassador Michael Collins this past week penned a letter to US Senators Carl Levin and John McCain exclaiming that Ireland has no special tax deal with Apple.

Just like an iPhone crams a roomful of devices into a pocketable device, miniaturization of electronics has now made it possible to create a battery-powered, cube-shaped pico projector just 1.8 inches (4.5 cm) on a side. Maps Pro - Google Maps Edition for iPad is a mixed bag
iPad owners seeking a powerful map solution have been a bit deprived lately because so far, Google Maps for iOS is native only for the iPhone and iPod touch. There is no Google Maps app for the iPad at native resolution.

Die Prinzipien des Flat-Designs
Beinahe jedes Gerücht, welches sich um das künftige iOS 7 dreht, beinhaltet Hinweise auf das Flat-Design. Die Kommentatoren sind sich einig, dass das «Flat Design» gegenüber der aktuellen Gestaltung von iOS einen gewissen Fortschritt darstellen würde. Doch was sind die Grundlagen des Flat-Designs? Autorin Carrie Cousins ist für designmodo dieser Frage nachgegangen.
Zum ersten beinhaltet das Flat-Design keine 3D-Elemente, womit die gesamte Gestaltung flach (daher der Name) ist. Bei dieser Gestaltungsart wird auch auf Schatten, Prägungen und Neigungen verzichtet. Für die Gestaltung werden keine Elemente hinzugefügt, welche einen «realistischen» Eindruck vermitteln sollen. Das Symbol steht dabei ganz klar im Vordergrund.

Ab 2015 könnten Roaming-Gebühren in der EU entfallen

Chicago paper fires photogs, will train reporters on 'iPhoneography'
In a surprise move on Thursday, the Chicago Sun-Times fired its entire photography staff (28 full-time photographers), telling them that the paper would go with more "in the field" pictures and video from reporters and witnesses. In a memo brought to light by rival paper the Chicago Tribune, managing editor of the Sun-Times, Craig Newman, says that reporters will immediately begin "mandatory training" on "iPhone photography basics," and that reporters will be responsible for capturing photos and video associated with stories.

Study: iPad the overwhelming preferred tablet among doctors
A new survey of physicians shows that as medical records, doctor's offices and hospitals go increasingly digital, Apple's iPad and iPhone are the top choices for interacting with health records and staff. Demand for more medically-centric apps is increasing, with 83 percent of the physicians surveyed saying they plan to take more advantage of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) on mobile devices to update information, order medication and analyze lab results as more apps come to market that can handle those functions.

Google: 'We won't be approving any facial recognition Glassware at this time'
While the public decides how to deal with Google Glass-wearing cyborgs walking among us, there are already startups trying to add facial recognition to the device. Irish ambassador denies charge of special Apple tax deal
Michael Collins, the Irish ambassador to the US, has written a letter to US Senators Carl Levin (D-New York) and John McCain (R-Arizona) flatly denying the charge that Apple negotiated a "special deal" to get an exceptionally lower tax rate in the country for its European headquarters. McCain and Levin made the charge, which Collins calls "wrong and misleading," during testimony from Apple CEO Tim Cook about the company's strategic tax policies that allow it to reduce its US tax liability -- even though a Senate report said Apple's policies were fully legal.

Apple may now sell the iPhone in Iran
The US Treasury Department has opened a door that could allow Apple to sell iPhones in Iran. The Treasury Department has made an agreement to allow exportation to Iran "of certain services, software, and hardware incident to personal communications," which would include Apple's mobile devices. This is good in a few different ways: Apple employees in the past have been rumored to not sell iPhones to people of Iranian descent, and in addition to the company from Cupertino being able to sell iPhones directly inside Iran itself, this should also prevent any other issues along those lines, thankfully.

Apple closes seeding of 10.8.4, release expected shortly
In a rare move, Apple has notified developers working on the forthcoming OS X 10.8.4 update that it is closing down the seeding of new betas, essentially signalling that release of the update is likely to come next week. In the message, the company explains that scheduled maintenance on its Software Update project requires it to close existing projects and that the system for developer updates will be down from today, Friday the 31st. Apple also took a moment in the message to thank developers for their efforts in helping finalize the software.

ITC delays Apple versus Samsung investigation completion by five days
The oft-postponed US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruling expected today in one of the many Apple versus Samsung complaints has been postponed for five days. Not commenting any further on the matter, the commission published a notice saying that the investigation completion date has been postponed until June 4, 2013. It is unclear what the Commission gains with the five day delay.

Friday Favorite: Lemon Wallet
Back in the frosty days of February, the guys over at Distil Union sent me one of their very cool Wally iPhone 5 wallets to try out. That ended up being a fortuitous review for a few reasons. Daily iPhone App: Mansion Run through some spooky pixels
Underground Pixel is a retro game developer that's put out a few iOS titles already, and their latest release is called Mansion Run, now available on the App Store for just 99 cents.
Mansion Run is simple by design -- in fact, it's almost too simple. The idea is that you're a skeleton named Boney Wellington (nice) who has to run through a house full of poltergeisted furniture. There are four levels to run on, and the whole game is that you simply swipe up or down to switch levels, dodging furniture for as long as you can. That's it -- all of the furniture is essentially the same, and none of it ever moves. Just run and dodge.
