Sony CEO Hirai: Xperia Z coming to US carrier shortly
Sony CEO Kaz Hirai had some good news to deliver on stage at D11 -- for US fans, at least. According to Hirai, the Xperia Z, which currently serves as the company's flagship smartphone, is expected to arrive on a US carrier shortly. Unfortunately that's the extent of the details Kaz was willing to offer up, as we expect he wants to give the unnamed operator the opportunity to make the announcement for themselves. Adobe Releases Kuler for iPhone
Rejoice designers. Adobe has released a free Kuler app for iPhone. Kuler is a free service offered by Adobe that helps designers with the creation and sharing of color themes using a series of slides and color wheels. The site is fun, but the app is a powerful addition. The app allows designers build and edit color themes based on photos taken with the iPhone.
Simply snap a picture in the app's camera view and it will automatically build color palettes based on the image you capture. The palette tones are shows via a series of overlaid color dots that show you where the primary colors are being drawn from. It then uses this information to create a color swatch for you.

Tweetbot for Mac boosted to 1.3, adds media timeline feature
Tweetbot for Mac has seen an update today, introducing a new media view giving a timeline view of the users' feed of images and video from people followed. The new view is invocable by clicking "view" in the menu bar followed by "Media timeline." The view shows only tweets with media connected.

Nuance acknowledges presence in Apple's Siri technology
Speaking earlier today at the ongoing D11 conference, Nuance CEO Paul Ricci confirmed that his company's technology is integral to Apple's Siri voice command system. "We are the fundamental provider of voice recognition for Apple," Ricci said in response to a question of whether Nuance was to blame for misheard Siri commands. The Nuance tech only handles voice recognition however, not any artificial intelligence demands.

Google Play Music All Access coming to iOS in weeks
Engadget reports Google's Play Music All Access app will appear on iOS in the next few weeks. Google's Sundar Pichai, speaking with Walt Mossberg today said the goal is to make the service "universally accessible" across all platforms.

Apple cuts education price of non-Retina, 13-inch MacBook Pro
Earlier today, Apple quietly introduced a revamped iPod model at a lower price point. Just as quietly, Apple also lowered the price on its 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro for educational customers.
Apple, under the new pricing matrix, chopped US$100 off the price of both non-Retina MacBook Pro configurations, bringing the lower end model down to $999 while the higher end model now checks in at $1299.

Waze 3.7 for iOS adds Facebook events integration
Social-based navigation service Waze has released an updated iOS app, v3.7. The focus of the upgrade is on Facebook events integration; signing into Facebook will now automatically populates the navigation list with addresses for event RSVPs, saving the need to enter them manually. Along similar lines, the app can now also display friends headed to the same event or destination. A bar with friends will appear on the right side of the screen, in the order of their expected arrival. Tapping the bar presents more detailed ETA information.

Aspyr brings the Bioware classic Knights of the Old Republic to iPad
When I spoke with them at Macworld | iWorld earlier this year, Aspyr Media (a company that has brought a lot of games to the Mac platform) promised some interesting "catalog Mac experiences" would be released on iOS, and they've outdone themselves with the first title. Bioware's classic Knights of the Old Republic RPG, based in the Star Wars universe, should be released for the iPad later today (we'll update this post with the link when it's live).

Nuance CEO Confirms Siri Partnership with Apple
Nuance has long been given credit for powering Siri's speech recognition capabilities, but neither the company nor Apple have ever confirmed the partnership, until today. Adobe releases promised Kuler iPhone app
As promised, Adobe has released a native iPhone version of Kuler, its color capture tool. The app lets people create color themes extracted from photos or images on Flickr and the web. Review: Tech21 Impact Band for iPhone 5
The version of Impact Band we received for review is mostly clear; both the bumper and backplate are see-through. One of the more interesting Indiegogo projects our sister site Engadget covered earlier this year at CES 2013 was the KUBI robotic iPad stand from Revolve Robotics (US$289 MSRP). While we were saddened to find out that by robotic, they don't mean that it's following you around on an air cushion, it's still a pretty cool project. Evernote introduces two-step verification, other security enhancements
Evernote's motto is "remember everything," which means that you might put everything onto the cloud service -- work notebooks, pictures of food, business cards, you name it. One problem with placing all of that personal and work-related information in the cloud is that it makes it a target for identity thieves. Today, Evernote announced three new security-related features to protect your information from prying eyes.
The first is two-step verification, which according to Evernote will happen only when you log into Evernote Web or install Evernote on a new device and is only available at this time to Evernote Premium and Business users. Eventually, the company plans to roll out two-step verification to all users.

Google confirms All Access coming to iOS in next few weeks
An official Google Play Music app with All Access support will be coming to iOS in the next few weeks, Google Android head Sundar Pichai has confirmed at the ongoing D11 conference. All Access is currently only accessible via Android and the web, as well as third-party iOS apps like gMusic. A Google iOS app has been rumored for about a week, but was supposedly in a "holding pattern" at the App Store while Google and Apple tried to come to an agreement about acceptable features. Now things aren't as rosy for the future of the new store, with critics being upset with the proposed design of the structure and the fate of a fountain behind the location.

Apple doesn't typically break out sales figures for specific iPod models, but I suppose the 100 million mark is something special. Hot on the heels of introducing a revamped iPod Touch, Apple told Jim Dalrymple of The Loop that the company has now sold over 100 million iPod Touch units.

HTC One with stock Android coming June 26th for $599
Speaking to Walt Mossberg at D11 this morning, Google's Sundar Pichai confirmed that there is indeed a stock Android version of the HTC One coming soon and will be fully unlocked for T-Mobile and AT&T at the solid price of $599. It'll go on sale in the Google Play Store on June 26th, the same date as its counterpart, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 stock edition. The new version of the device -- which will be sold in the US initially -- will come SIM-unlocked, with an unlocked bootloader and 32GB storage. In terms of radios, it will offer quadband LTE (700/850/AWS/1900), triband HSPA+ (850/1900/2100) and the usual quadband GSM / EDGE.

Avago ramp-up may indicate next-gen iPhone going into production
A forecast from chipmaker Avago Technologies may point to production of a next-generation iPhone getting underway, Reuters suggests. The company is predicting a sequential revenue increase of 6 to 9 percent for the current quarter, based on "the initial ramp of a product transition at a large smartphone OEM, a recovery in enterprise networking spending, as well as a continued, gradual uptick in industrial end market demand," according to CEO Hock Tan. Apple has introduced a new model of its iPod touch. The new iPod touch comes in a 16 GB capacity and lacks the rear iSight camera of other iPod touches with Retina displays. This new model of iPod touch does still feature the front facing FaceTime camera. With the introduction of this new low-cost iPod touch it appears Apple has discontinued the old fourth generation 3.5-inch screen iPod touches.

Ehemalige Chefin der US-Umweltschutzbehörde nun bei Apple
Lisa Jackson hat neu die Führung der Umwelt-Abteilung von Apple übernommen. Dies ha Tim Cook anlässlich der D11-Konferenz bekannt gegeben. Jackson leitete in der ersten Amtszeit von US-Präsident Obama die US-Umweltschutzbehörde «EPA». In ihrer neuen Funktion soll sie die Anstrengungen, welche von Apple im Bereich des Umweltschutzes gemacht werden, überwachen. Dabei wird sie ihre Erkenntnisse direkt an Tim Cook raportieren.
Lisa Jackson wird sehr gut in das Team von Apple passen, wie Tim Cook gegenüber amerikanischen Medien sagte.
Lob für die neue Leiterin des Umwelt-Bereichs bei Apple gibt es von Greenpeace. iPod touch 5G nun auch mit 16 GB Speicher
Apple hat heute die Verfügbarkeit des iPod touch aktualisiert. Ab sofort ist die vierte Generation des iPod touch nicht mehr im Apple Online Store verfügbar.
Stattdessen hat Apple eine abgespeckte Version des iPod touch der fünften Generation mit 16 GB Speicher ins Sortiment aufgenommen. Abgespeckt ist die Version deshalb, weil auf der Rückseite keine Kamera mehr verbaut ist. Die Kamera auf der Vorderseite, um FaceTime nutzen zu können, wurde hingegen beibehalten.
Die anderen Highlights der fünften iPod touch Generation, wie das Retina Display, der A5-Prozessor oder Siri, kommen auch bei der 16-GB-Version des iPod touch zur Anwendung.

So, it might not be a surprise that it was in the works, but it's official announce almost caught us off guard. Here it is, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini. Apple announces first acts for London's iTunes Festival
Some of the acts that will appear at the 2013 iTunes Festival in London have been announced by Apple, and include Phoenix, Jessie J, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Primal Scream, Justin Timberlake, Queens of the Stone Age, Jake Bugg and Jack Johnson. WSJ: Pegatron, not Foxconn, to be primary source of 'low-cost iPhone'

Béhar, who has worked on products like the Jambox and the UP, has created a simple universal lock that is designed to connect to a smartphone using Bluetooth. The lock itself is crafted of anodized aluminum and looks similar to a standard home lock. Video: Mo Rocca's iPhone is his second-most important accessory
CBS News Sunday Morning correspondent and humorist Mo Rocca recently sat down with USA Today to talk about his iPhone's importance to him. I'll let the video speak for itself (especially when he's talking about using the iPhone to groom his hair), but one thing I did find genuinely intriguing is that he is an iOS user who needs to constantly close apps by bringing up the multitasking bar and tapping the red minus button -- even though iOS is built so you should never need to close open apps. Does that make him an ultimate techie or obsessive-compulsive? With humorists you never know.

Streamer Aereo remains contentious in pair of D11 interviews
At the Wall Street Jourmal D11 conference, ABC Television president Anne Sweeney and online television streaming service Aereo CEO Barry Diller were interviewed separately, with vastly differing opinions on the recently expanded startup which has seen its share of lawsuits both instigated by and delivered unto it. The ABC president called Aereo "wrong," adding that she believes that "it is illegal, and it is opportunistic piracy" despite no court yet agreeing with her sentiment.

Experian: iOS users spend more time on their devices than Android
Seemingly supporting Apple CEO Tim Cook's remarks that the true measure of a successful product is less about just sales and more about customer satisfaction and use, credit agency and market analyst Experian has reported that iPhone users spend just over 50 percent more time on their devices than Android smartphone. While the results are open to interpretation, the other finding of the study may be more surprising: contrary to theories that claim Android users are fundamentally different than iOS users, the study shows largely similar usage patterns.

Angry Birds soda release makes for huge sales jump
Yes indeed: Angry Birds soda. A Nordic beverage company named Olvi got the rights from Rovio to make some Angry Birds-branded sugar water, and apparently it's a huge hit for them, raising the company's sales by 85 percent. Exports were especially huge, going from 3% of Olvi's market to a whole 20%, with exports focusing primarily on Spain, Norway, and the UK. There's no indication that any of this drink has made it over to the United States for sale just yet, so if you have a chance to try some, you'll have to let us know how it tastes. Hopefully "eggy" isn't a word included in the description.

Motorola's next phone is called Moto X, will be built in Texas
Outside of FCC filings, Motorola has been coy about just what its next major smartphone will be -- until now. The firm's Dennis Woodside just revealed at D11 that the next phone will be called Moto X, and that it will be built in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mount Everest 3D is a free universal iOS app that brings you up close to the highest mountain in the world. 3D data gathered from satellites gives you the ability to explore the mountain with a touch interface. You can zoom, rotate, and follow the most popular routes up to the summit of Mount Everest. The app also shows weather in the area, details for hardy tourists, and a 2D view.
The app also has the inevitable in-app purchase, which lets you download maps and info for use without an Internet connection, but I think most people can get along without it. The on-board maps are US$5.99.

Apple doling out $53 million in moisture sensor class action suit
As expected, Apple has filed its intention to pay out $53 million to settle a class action suit accusing Apple of denying warranty repairs to units that had moisture indicators erroneously tripped. Consumers may be eligible for up to $300 depending on which iOS device needed repair, as well as how many claimants file for the reimbursement.

DevJuice: Forage offers SQLite query GUI for devs
The OS X Forage (US$9.99) app provides a simple query and editing interface for SQLite databases. This app targets developers who use pre-built databases for iOS, OS X and Web deployment. It enables them to test and refine queries as well as to edit table data, and do so outside of the command line.
It's a pretty sweet little app. I was able to open, edit, and save updates to a variety of database files. Admittedly, my testing was fairly light, but it easily handle

Official Grepolis client coming soon to iOS
I met with the German company Innogames a few years ago at GDC, where the company told me it was eventually planning to bring out some of its browser-based strategy titles to iOS. I haven't heard much from Innogames since, until today: The company has announced that its next mobile title will be a client for Grepolis, one of the most popular games in the lineup. Grepolis is enormously popular overseas, especially among European gamers (the title claims over 20 million registered users), and in addition to Innogames' other mobile-enabled title, Tribal Wars, it should significantly grow the company's audience on iOS.

Google Calendar for Android adds color highlighting, date and time picker tweaks
Admittedly, this one's a bit of a snooze, but if you find yourself adding events through Google's Calendar app on Android, you might give a hoot about these tweaks. Apple Hires at Least a Dozen Former AMD Employees for an 'Orlando GPU Team', Still Hiring More
Apple has hired at least a dozen former AMD graphics engineers for its Orlando offices in recent months, according to a MacRumors review of employees' LinkedIn profiles. The majority of hires, which include a graphics architect, hardware engineer and others, occurred in January of this year. AMD laid off a number of employees last year in a corporate reorganization, and fired more in January.
