EA scores exclusive rights to develop future Star Wars games
Electronic Arts and Disney announced a multi-year agreement today that will see future Star Wars video games exclusively developed and published by EA. This news comes a little over a month after the house of mouse made the decision to stop internal development at LucasArts. EA's developers scheduled to take on the Star Wars universe include DICE (Battlefield), Visceral (Dead Space) and BioWare, the latter of which will continue development of its already released Star Wars MMO

Popcap to Release 'Plants vs. Zombies 2' in July [iOS Blog]
Popcap has shared few details about the sequel to its popular lane defense game Plants vs. Zombies after announcing the follow up in late March, but today the company offered up a more solid July release date along with a teaser trailer. Though the trailer does not give any hints about the gameplay, it does poke fun at the lengthy amount of time between releases. The original Plants vs. Zombies game was released in 2009, with an iOS version available in 2010. Upgrade vendor MaxUpgrades has announced the availability of the SSD SATA module for iMac 2012 models, adapting the "blade" SSD slot to a normal SATA plug. The adapter and optional mount allows 2012 iMac users to use either a dual 2.5-inch SSD configuration, or a 2.5 SSD with existing hard drive. The dual-SSD kit and bracket retails for $120. Air Microphone turns your iPhone into a wireless PA system
Air Microphone is a U.S. $ 0.99 app that uses AirPlay to connect your iPhone to an Apple TV or AirPlay-equipped amplifier to give you a wireless microphone.
The app is not hard to use. After launch, go to the multitasking bar on the iPhone and select any AirPlay device and start talking. In my tests, the app worked pretty well on an AppleTV with a few caveats. There are options for 3 EQ settings. 'Normal' was just fine. 'Less Bass' made me sound like a parrot, and 'More Bass' made me sound like a giant Cyclops. Way too thundering, if you get my drift. The app also lets you select a photo to display on the Apple TV during your talk, but the image is proportioned like the iPhone screen in portrait mode, so I don't thin

GameStop confirms June 1 as the end of PlayStation 2 hardware and software trade-ins, will continue selling used stock 'for several months'
GameStop is shuttering its PlayStation 2 trade-in business as of June 1st, a company spokesperson confirmed to Engadget. "We can confirm that as of June 1st we will no longer be accepting the PS2 console or its related product for trades," the statement reads. Several of GameStop's retail locations confirmed to our sister site Joystiq that the June 1st date was accurate after a Reddit posting showed what appeared to be an in-store sign saying as much, and the statement today offers a bit more detail.

A long-time champion of tablet computing, one has to wonder how former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates feels given that Apple seemingly swooped in out of nowhere and quickly claimed the tablet market as its own in 2010.
Indeed, the latest data from IDC indicates that the iPad amassed a 39.6% marketshare during the first quarter of 2013. In contrast, tablets from Microsoft accounted for just a 1.8% share.

Huge crowds greet Berlin Apple Store
Judging from the huge crowds that attended the opening of the new Apple Store Kurfürstendamm in Berlin on Friday, the German capital was starving for an Apple Store of its own.

Google has launched an updated version of its Gmail app for iOS, introducing support for opening links in their respective apps. Available since 2011, the official Gmail app has also included support for opening links, however, prior to this update directed users to a browser for all links. The rising popularity of iPad as cash register
Over at Wired, writer Marcus Wohlson points out that the novelty of using an iPad or other mobile device as a cash register is beginning to disappear as that particular use case turns mainstream.
The act of handing your credit card to an iPad-toting store clerk or coffeeshop barista was unthinkable a few years ago and increasingly the norm in 2013. Wohlson brings up a recent study by UK industry firm Timetric that notes that between 2011 and 2012, the number of mobile point-of-sale systems used worldwide more than doubled.

Gmail for iOS updated with sign-out option, better iOS app integration
Gmail for iOS was updated today to version 2.2.7182, and folks who use the app to grab their Gmail-flavored email are going to be happy.
First, there's now a way to sign out of individual accounts. In the past, signing out of one account was impossible -- you had to sign out of all of them at once. Now it's possible to tap and hold an account avatar in the app sidebar, which brings up a Sign Out button for that account.
The second big feature in this update is that you can now specify whether a link to Google Maps, YouTube and other Web links should open in Google's native apps (if they're installed) or a mobile web view. The options are enabled for the entire Gmail app, not just for indiv

Rückkehr einer Ikone: Brauns ET66 wird neu aufgelegt
Sein Design gilt als Vorbild für die Taschenrechner-App auf dem iPhone. Zumindest bis zum iPhone OS 2.0 — ab da waren die Buttons plötzlich eckig. Display Analysts See Retina iPad Mini Updates Coming in 3Q 2013 and 1Q 2014
In a bit of a confusing sequence of events, CNET reports on claims from NPD DisplaySearch analysts who see Apple having two Retina iPad mini devices in the pipeline, including an initial launch in the third quarter of this year followed by a second update in the first quarter of next year."We see two refreshes coming. Path update enhances privacy, removes "find Facebook friends" functionality
This past week, Path made headlines when it was reported that the popular messaging and photo sharing app was aggressively 'recruiting' new users by sending out sign-up invitations via text, and in some cases phone, to users' contact lists.
The reason behind the application's ostensibly strange behavior is that the default setting is such that the app reaches out to a user's Facebook friends and asks them to try out Path. Consequently, if users want to avoid spamming their friends, they have to pro-actively toggle the option off.

HP überarbeitet die ProBook-Laptops

Im Herbst 2012 hatte HP damit begonnen, einige Modelle der ProBook-Laptops mit den Trinity-Prozessoren von AMD anzubieten, jetzt wird die gesamte Produktfamilie überholt. Die neue Notebooks sind dünner, leichter und kommen außerdem mit einem veränderten Design. Tipp: Mit iOS die richtige Aussprache fremder Sprachen lernen
Nicht nur OS X hat eine hochentwickelte Sprachausgabe, sondern auch iOS. Da iOS auch den digitalen Sprachassistenten Siri beherrbergt, ist dies im Grunde genommen nicht verwunderlich — doch vergisst man all zu schnell, dass diese Sprachausgabe auch anderweitig benutzt werden kann: zum Beispiel zum Vorlesen von Texten.
Wird in einer iOS-App Text ausgewählt (z.B. in «Notizen» oder «Safari»), erscheint oberhalb der Text-Auswahl das schwarze Auswahl-Menü. Dieses Menü beherrbergt nicht nur die Funktion «Kopieren und Einsetzen», sondern enthält über das >-Symbol rechts noch mehr Optionen — so zum Beispiel «Sprechen». «Sprechen» liesst den ausgewählten Text mit der iOS Sprachausgabe vor.
Diese Sprachausgabe wird dann zusätzlich interessant, wenn in den Einstellungen unter Allgemein:Tastaturen diverse zusätzliche Sprach-Layouts ausgewählt sind — wie in unserem Beispiel die Englische und die Französische Tastatur.

Apple spart durch Schulden Steuern in Milliardenhöhe
Apple hat in der letzten Woche Obligationen im Gesamtwert von 17 Milliarden US-Dollar ausgegeben, um die grosszügigen Geschenke an die Aktionäre zu finanzieren. Apple holte sich Geld vom Kapitalmarkt, obwohl das Unternehmen mehr als 140 Milliarden US-Dollar an Bargeldreserven besitzt.
