Heimliches Filtern und Löschen sorgt für UnmutApples Online-Dienst iCloud arbeitet teilweise nicht zuverlässig - das ist bekannt. Doch seit ein paar Tagen sorgt ein weiteres Problem für Schlagzeilen: Apple setzt beim Mail-Dienst von iCloud rigorose Spam-Filter ein, die auch Dateianhänge durchleuchtet und dafür sorgen, dass manche Mails den Empfänger niemals erreichen - ohne dass die Betroffenen darüber informiert werden.

Rumor has $330, 4.5-inch plastic iPhone in 2014
Apple is hoping to ship a $330, 4.5-inch plastic iPhone in 2014, says Japanese site Macotakara. The phone was allegedly slated to ship this year but delayed for unspecified reasons. The polycarbonate plastic in the phone is expected to be similar to the type used in the discontinued white MacBook, and thicker than the aluminum and glass used for the iPhone 5, in order to increase durability.

Dunkin' Donuts app now supports Passbook
Dunkin' Donuts has made it easier, and quicker, than ever for iOS users to pay for their fix of coffee, donuts and baked goods, by adding Passbook support (Dunkin' Pass) to the Dunkin' Donuts iOS app (version 2.5).
John Costello, Chief Global Marketing and Innovation Officer for Dunkin' Brands said, "With more than a million downloads in just over six months, the Dunkin' App continues to make it even easier for our busy, on-the-go guests to keep running on Dunkin' throughout the day."
Since Passbook is location aware, Dunkin' Pass will pop a notification in your lock screen when you're near your favorite U.S. participating Dunkin' Donuts.

Apple Executives and Directors Required to Hold 3x - 10x Base Salary in AAPL Stock
Apple has changed its corporate bylaws [PDF] to require executives officers to hold three times their annual base salary in stock, with Non-Employee Directors holding five times their annual retainer and Tim Cook required to hold ten times his annual base salary in stock. The requirement for executives went into effect February 6th, while the requirement for Cook and the Directors went into effect back in November. Disney adds a little originality with Toy Story: Smash It
Last time I spoke with Disney's Bart Decrem, I asked him about the company's plans to put out original mobile games. Lately, they've been on a bender of rebranded iOS hits, including Temple Run Brave, Monsters Inc. Run, and Where's My Perry?, which is a branded remix of Disney's own original Where's My Water. YouTube App Updated with 'Send to TV' Feature, Now Pairs with Smart TVs and Consoles [iOS Blog]
Google today updated its YouTube for iOS app, making its "Send to TV" feature available for the iPhone and the iPad. Send to TV lets users pair iDevices with televisions that support Google TV, allowing YouTube content to be streamed directly to the television. The functionality of Send to TV is similar to Apple's AirPlay, without the need for an Apple TV. With the new feature, YouTube users on the same Wi-Fi network can control video playback on the TV and create playlists using the app. Send to TV also functions with both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, though use with consoles requires manual pairing with the iOS app. YouTube has also been updated with YouTube Capture integration, stability improvements, and improved streaming ove

Mobile World Congress 2013: best of show
Another Mobile World Congress has come and gone. While we weren't treated to a mountain of device launches, as seen in previous years, we definitely all came away with some favorites. Apple's Polycarbonate iPhone with 4.5-Inch Display Arriving for $330 in 2014?
Japanese blog Macotakara reports (via AppleInsider) that Apple's plans for a lower-cost iPhone have now been pushed back to 2014, with the company reportedly planning to use a polycarbonate body similar to that seen on the discontinued white plastic MacBook. Apple is said to be targeting a price of $330 for unsubsidized models, significantly lowering the cost of entry in markets where carrier subsidies are uncommon. Apple patent application details magnetic iPad stand for extra-secure mounting
A recently published Apple patent reveals the design for a "magnetic tablet configured to rigidly hold a portion of the tablet device in place." Corning says flexible Willow displays are three years out, simpler uses still expected this year
There's no question that Corning has had a big impact on mobile devices in recent years with its Gorilla Glass, and it's hoping for similar success in the years ahead with its new Willow Glass technology. iPad Mini Sales Overtaking iPad Sales Faster Than Apple Expected
Sales of the iPad mini are cannibalizing sales of the iPad, according to a report from NPD DisplaySearch. January shipments of tablet panels between 7 and 9 inches eclipsed shipments of larger panels, indicating an unexpected shift in consumer preference for a smaller form factor tablet. Shipments of 9.7-inch panels (the iPad) fell from 7.4 million in December to 1.3 million in January, while shipments of 7.9-inch panels (the iPad mini) rose to over 5 million. Corning: No Willow Glass in devices for three years
Corning's flexible Willow Glass won't appear in products until 2016 at the earliest, the company tells Bloomberg. Corning Glass Technologies president James Clappin explains that despite the company's own hopes that Willow would reach the public in 2013, potential buyers haven't developed products that can actually exploit the glass. Daily iPhone App: Real Racing 3 is a showcase of the best (and not quite) that iOS has to offer
Here's the bottom line on this one, right away: Real Racing 3 is an amazing game, and EA has put it on the App Store for free. Go grab it and be awed, right now.
That said, I do have one issue with this game, and it's that I'm actually a terrible driver. I do fine on real roads at less-than-deadly speeds. But whenever I play a racing simulation game like this one, where real racing vehicles are modeled on real racing tracks, I always drive way too fast, brake way too late, and I spin out on the track as the rest of the pack flies by me. It's a personal problem, I know, but personally I prefer arcade racers, or another genre completely.

Dropping a smartphone is an absolutely horrifying experience. And on my first day in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress, it happened to me with my BlackBerry Z10. As much as I hate to admit, it was a dumb move on my part. Unfortunately, tragedy can strike with as simple an act as brushing one's elbow across the table, and that's all it took for me to knock my smartphone right onto a hard surface -- facedown in a perfectly horizontal position (the worst imaginable angle). YouTube for iOS adds send-to-TV pairing, lets you skip the media hub
Those running the dedicated YouTube app for iOS have had TV streaming for awhile as long as there was an Apple TV in between. Thunderbolt Display in low supply among third-party vendors

Online invoicing service WePay releases iPhone app
WePay is an online payments startup with a different mission -- allowing small businesses to send invoices and collect payments. The company has announced the availability of a free iOS app to give WePay customers the ability to invoice clients and charge their credit cards from virtually anywhere.

Apple patent application reveals a camera with built-in privacy filter
It feels a bit strange to report on a webcam privacy shade as if it were a novelty: various products already let users put a decorative background on screen in lieu of a live stream, or even pull a physical shade across the lens. What Apple is apparently proposing, though, is a camera with such privacy filters built into the camera module itself. The company just applied for a patent on a camera whose images could selectively transition from opaque to transparent and back again, depending on how much privacy is called for. Boeing touts a 'permanent' fix for 787 Dreamliner batteries, Japan stays cautious
There's been talk for weeks of Boeing developing a fix for the 787 Dreamliner's battery fire troubles. If the aircraft maker has its way, that should soon translate to action. Controversy emerges over Samsung expert on ITC case
Controversy has emerged over a new expert on an Ericsson v. Samsung case at the US International Trade Commission, according to reports. Complaints began when FOSS Patents discovered that the Rt. Hon. Professor Sir Robin Jacob has been brought onto Samsung's side in the ITC dispute. Jacob, significantly, was one of the UK judges who ruled that Apple was non-compliant in publishing a required admission that Samsung hadn't violated Apple's iPad patents.

Multiple iCloud services hit with unspecified 'problems'
Several iCloud services are being affected by "problems," Apple's system status page confirms. The errors began around 4AM Eastern time on Thursday, and have persisted since then. T-Mobile USA Q4 results show dropped revenue year-on-year
T-Mobile USA lost profits, and customers in the fourth quarter of 2012, though increased its level of revenue from the previous quarter, according to recently-released company reports. iTunes U downloads crack 1 billion mark
Over 1 billion downloads have been made through iTunes U, Apple has announced. The service, a subset of iTunes, includes books, coursework, and podcasts, many of which are free to the public. Apple says that it has over 1,200 universities and colleges participating, and about the same number of K-12 institutions. In all, over 2,500 public courses are available, along with "thousands" of private ones.

Apple wins one against Samsung in Japanese court
The lastest round of fighting between Apple and Samsung goes to the Cupertino Kid. A Japanese court ruled favorably for Apple in a suit filed by Samsung alleging that Apple had misused 3G wireless patents in several versions of the iPhone.
As noted by Apple Insider, Samsung's lawsuit in this case goes back to April of 2011, when the Korean electronics giant sought an injunction against the iPhone for unauthorized use of specific data transmission patents. A ruling today found that Samsung doesn't have the right to assert those 3G patents in court.
Samsung had also recently made a request to a California federal court seeking documents from the Apple

«Samsung Wallet» eine Kopie von Apples Passbook?
Samsung hat am Mittwoch anlässlich des «Mobile World Congress» in Barcelona ein neues Produkt namens «Samsung Wallet» vorgestellt. Mit «Samsung Wallet» lanciert Samsung eine ähnliche App, wie es Apple mit «Passbook» bereits seit vergangenem Jahr anbietet. Mit Wallet soll es gemäss Samsung möglich sein, Tickets für Anlässe abzulegen, Gutscheine zu verwalten oder Boarding-Pässe zu speichern. Wie Apples Passbook ermöglicht es auch «Samsung Wallet», Gutscheine zeit- und ortsbasierend anzeigen zu lassen. Die Boarding-Pässe werden zudem wie bei Passbook in Echtzeit mit Informationen zum Flug und zum Gate ergänzt. Informationen zu verspäteten Flügen sollen ebenso in der App angezeigt werden. Barnes & Noble Q3 2013 revenue down 8.8 percent over last year to $2.2 billion

iTunes U content hits the one billion download mark
Apple completely revamped its iTunes U app last year to include full course materials, and it looks like that work is paying dividends as the site just trumpeted its billionth content download. TuneIn launches TuneIn Live, hopes to encourage radio station discovery through custom UI
With around 70,000 stations from around the world in its database, TuneIn is rightly one of the more popular radio apps out there. Unfortunately, it also means customers don't always have the easiest time finding what they want, something the Palo Alto firm plans to fix with a new update it's rolling out today. Weezic, an iPad app for classical musicians, is a relatively new sheet music app. In essence, Weezic displays sheet music, but with some interesting pedagogic features to help you learn and grown in your music reading and playing.
As is customary with most apps that display sheet music, Weezic utilizes MIDI to illustrate the different instruments in the music with a complete virtual orchestra. iTunes: Musikbranche wächst erstmals seit Jahren wieder
Dank iTunes und anderen digitalen Musikvertrieben ist es der Musikindustrie erstmals seit 13 Jahren wieder gelungen, ein Wachstum zu erzielen. Gemäss dem Branchenverband «IFPI» erwirtschafteten die Industrie einen Gesamtumsatz von 16.5 Milliarden US-Dollar. Das Online-Geschäft wuchs dabei um 9% auf ein Gesamtvolumen von 5.6 Milliarden US-Dollar. Damit ist man aber noch weit von den Spitzenerträgen des Jahres 1999 entfernt, als die Branche 38 Milliarden US-Dollar einnehmen konnte.
Apples iTunes alleine generierte im letzten Jahr 13.5 Milliarden US-Dollar, davon machen die Musik-Verkäufe etwa 4.4 Milliarden US-Dollar aus, wovon wiederum etwa 3.4 Milliarden US-Dollar an die Musik-Labels gehen. Damit macht iTunes alleine etwa 60 Prozent des kompletten Online-Musik-Geschäftes aus.

This week, tourists (and at least one reporter) visiting North Korea began accessing the web directly from their smartphones, through the country's Koryolink 3G network. Apple hat in der Öffentlichkeit immer wieder betont, wie wichtig dem Unternehmen das Wachstum in China ist. Unbemerkt von der Öffentlichkeit ist es Apple gelungen, eine solide Basis für das Wachstum in Indien zu legen. Gemäss dem «Wall Street Journal» hat Apple zum einen die Werbemassnahmen in Indien deutlich gesteigert. Den lokalen Unternehmen wird gleichzeitig ein grösserer Freiraum geboten, wenn es um die Platzierung von Werbung geht. Report: iTunes totals 60 percent of digital music sales
Apple's iTunes was originally conceived (and run for a number of years) as a more-or-less "break even" music service that was little more than a value-added feature driving buyers to the high-margin iPod line. Today, the iTunes empire pulls in $13.5 billion annually, of which music sales still play an enormous part -- around $4.4 billion, of which about $3.4 billion goes to music publishers large and small. The second bill intended to quash "patent trolls" has been introduced by the sponsors of the original failed bill. Representatives Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Peter DeFazio (D-OR) are sponsoring the SHIELD act of 2013, which intends to create a "loser pays" system where certain patent holders will be forced to pay the defendant's legal bills in entirety if the holder loses the suit. Best Buy corporate axes 400 jobs, sales force safe for now
According to reports, Best Buy corporate slashed 400 jobs at its Richfield, MN headquarters. Pandora Limits Mobile Listening to 40 Hours Per Month
Pandora will begin limiting mobile listeners to 40 hours of listening per month, the company revealed in a blog post today. The change was made in response to a rise in the royalty rates that the company must pay to record companies. Users who wish to listen to more than 40 hours per month can subscribe to the Pandora One service and get unlimited listening, as well as no advertising -- or pay a one-time $0.99 fee to listen as long as they like for the rest of the month. MLB updates At Bat 13 iOS app, expanding Passbook use
The entity controlling the sport of baseball is making some major league moves in courting iOS owners, particularly those using Apple's "virtual wallet" Passbook app. Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced that it will expand the number of stadiums accepting Passbook electronic tickets to nearly half of all MLB venues over the course of 2013, for a total of 13 stadiums. Last week, the league updated its At Bat 13 app for Spring Training, now including multi-platform live audio and a classic game video archive among many other new features.

Daily iPhone App: Horizon puts a weather report in a calendar app
Horizon is an interesting little app that comes from a very simple idea: To combine your weather report and your calendar in one place. That may not sound like a big innovation, but it's actually not a bad one. Horizon's simple and straightforward design (put together by a young developer named Kyle Rosenbluth) makes browsing through your upcoming schedule very easy, and matching up outside temperatures and weather with what you're doing is more helpful than not.

Bomberman gets unofficial web-based version, crams in up to 1000 online players
This is about to ruin any hopes you had of a productive day. Bombermine, an unofficial version of SNES throwback, Super Bomberman, is a web-based gift that lets you face-off against up to 1,000 players in a single game. Borrowing the same scoresheet setup of a first-person shooter, you'll auto-generate within an existing game once you've picked a username. Tallahassee, Fla., is a bad place to be an iPhone owner
The folks at gizmo trade-in site Gazelle see a lot of broken iPhones, and fortunately for those in the blogging biz, they keep a lot of statistics on where those phones come from and what kind of damage they see. Gazelle published a Top 10 Klutziest Cities list based on the percentage of broken or damaged iPhones received, and this year's winner was Tallahassee, Florida. A whopping 21.29 percent of all of the iPhones traded in by people from that city had some sort of damage.

Cricket/Leap Wireless Reports iPhone Sales Weaker Than Expected

Pandora establishes 40 hour mobile listening cap for free users
Remember the good ol' days of Pandora? Well, it turns out that you were living in it until today. Just this afternoon, the music streaming service revealed that it's become necessary to return to the 40 hour caps from times long ago -- only this time around, it applies only to mobile users. Doctors improve usefulness of iOS devices in the ER with Box.net
A group of more than 60 doctors at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina are now sharing procedures, journal articles and conversations through a unique use of Box.net's file-sharing services.
A Wired article states that the system has become a valuable tool for doctors, who count on it for providing immediate access to critical information. Dr. Iltifat Husain (at right), who edits the iMedicalApps website, found the medical center's Box.net system to be a valuable assistant back in October when he was first testing it.

Elon Musk says Tesla will repay Department of Energy loan well before 2022 due date
