Just about any apartment-dwelling urbanite can tell you that radiators are a bit of a necessary evil in the world of city living. What if there was a way to control the heat to individual rental units, without relying entirely on a landlord's temperature-controlling omnipotence? The Radiator Labs team has developed a device to help realize this dream. It's essentially housing that sits on-top of an individual radiator unit, controlling heat transfer to a room. ZTE Open, the company's first Firefox OS phone, gets a spec sheet at MWC
Remember that ZTE teased the MWC debut of its upcoming Firefox OS phone? Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 spotted at MWC, almost hides your entire hand
At last, here's what we've been promised: an 8-inch flavor of Samsung's Galaxy Note lineup. Spotted by an anonymous tipster at the MWC show floor earlier today, the booth shows off said tablet designed with portrait usage in mind, meaning it'll pretty much cover up most of whichever hand you'll be holding it with. Billig-iPhone: Analystin glaubt nach Treffen mit Oppenheimer daran

Apple hält 11 Prozent des weltweiten Mobiltelefon-Marktes
Die Analysten von canalys haben vor kurzem ihren Mobilfunk-Markt-Bericht für das vierte Quartal 2012 offiziell vorgestellt. Für die Erhebung der Daten wurden die Verkäufe aus mehr als 50 Ländern untersucht. Gemäss dieser Studie wurden im vierten Quartal weltweit 438.1 Millionen Mobiltelefone verkauft. Der Absatz ist im Jahresvergleich abgeflacht, wie es in der Studie heisst. Die Experten von canalys haben berechnet, dass 50 Prozent der weltweit gekauften Mobiltelefone «Smartphones» sind. Weiterhin dominierend auf dem Smartphone-Markt ist Samsung: 29 Prozent der weltweit verkauften Smartphones werden von Samsung hergestellt. Dies entspricht 62.9 Millionen ausgelieferten Smartphones. Der Absatz von Samsung wuchs im vierten Quartal um 78 Prozent im Vergleich zum Vorjahr. Auf dem zweiten Platz folgt bereits Apple mit einem Marktanteil von 22.1 Prozent. FixYa: iPhone 5 is most reliable smartphone by far
A new study by mobile device repair company FixYa examined a key factor in cell phone usage rarely able to be judged by buyers at the time of sale, but one of the most important in ongoing loyalty and value: reliability. From almost three quarters of a million problem reports, Apple's smartphones overall (and the iPhone 5 in particular) were found to be nearly three times more reliable than its nearest competition, Samsung. Life is hard for Apple engineers. Long work hours, high demands, and little exposure for individual achievement. That's why it constantly amuses devs to find little bits of humanity interspersed among their development tools.

Facebook adds free voice calls to primary iOS app
Facebook users in the US and Canada who are online with the service can now call each other for free on the main Facebook iOS app, a feature formerly restricted to the Facebook Messenger program. The feature, which works over both Wi-Fi and 3G/LTE connections, allows friends to start a chat session and then change it into a voice call. Currently the feature works with the iPhone or iPod Touch version of the Facebook app only, but should arrive to the iPad version through an update expected soon.

Apple Hiring 'Maps Ground Truth Data Specialist' in Australia
Apple has posted a new job listing for a 'Maps Ground Truth Data Specialist' in Australia. The job listing, which was posted two days ago, comes several months after Apple came under fire for incorrect mapping data in central Australia. The position will check "changes to map data, provide feedback on unique local map requirements, collect ground truth information, and evaluate competing products." 'Ground Truth' refers to information collected on location versus data collected remotely, such as satellite imagery.

Weekend Poll: Does the budget iPhone have legs?
Rumors continue to fly about a budget priced iPhone. Although we here at TUAW remain completely agnostic on the likelihood of this product, we certainly can understand why Apple would benefit from a low-cost product -- and not just for emerging markets like China.
Consider the iPad 2. It's still for sale, with a budget price and great Apple engineering. The iPad 2 and the mini represent affordable products with high demand that consumers are choosing over high end features like Retina displays.

Microsoft reveals hackers attacked it too, 'no customer data affected'
Following revelations of hackers accessing files at companies including Apple and Facebook, Microsoft revealed today it also found evidence of intrusions. In a blog post on the Microsoft Security Response Center, general manager Matt Thomlinson indicated "a small number of computers, including some in our Mac business unit" were affected by malware of the type described in the other attacks. As he mentions, such cyberattacks are no surprise to a company with Microsoft's profile, however one wonders if the folks in Redmond aren't having a chuckle

Google confirms Glass will work with iPhone
Google held an event this week to show off its upcoming "Google Glass" interactive headset/system, and from that meeting came one important note for us iOS fans. Google confirmed that the system will definitely work with Apple's iPhone. The exact details of the relationship aren't clear, but there are of course a number of ways your iPhone could work with Google's glasses, from simply acting as a Bluetooth headset, to a more complex relationship with a Google app, sharing information or even an Internet connection back and forth.

See that group of phones just sitting around, pretending not to have a care in the world? Turns out, this is the new Lumia 720, which is now greeting the world for the first time in a leaked press photo. Puzzle Craft goes on a 'Treasure Hunt' next week
Puzzle Craft was one of my favorite games last year on any platform, not even just Apple's App Store. But like a lot of the title's fans, I've been somewhat disappointed that developers Ars Thanea haven't followed it up with any new content. They and publisher Chillingo had quite a few golden opportunities to get the game back in the spotlight with a big update, and they just haven't supported the game like I believe they should have.
But there's good news here -- Chillingo has finally sent word that Puzzle Craft is getting a nice update next week. It's called "Treasure Hunt," and while it's not exactly clear how it all will work, it sounds like the game will be hiding treasure items in among the other items you collect
