It's now sending out shirts like the one above to select folks, who can now wear their disdain for the out-of-date browser. Silk ported from Kindle Fire to rooted Android devices, other web browsers now jealous

Give it time and eventually someone will port your favorite browser to everything, even your toaster, if you're lucky. A group of developers on the XDA-forums has begun sharing how to port the Silk web browser found on the Amazon Kindle Fire to various Android devices. To accomplish this, you'll need a rooted Android device, whereupon you can download a package file and install it to the /system/lib directory with permissions set to the same as the other files in that folder. Users can choose to install any of

Communilator Pro tops TUAW Best of 2011 voting for best productivity app

After a few issues with making sure that the voting poll was actually published (my fault), we finally have a winner in the productivity app category for the TUAW Best of 2011. That winner was Communilator Pro (US$2.99), a global translator app from RantNetwork. The app has been very successful since release and does language translation in a number of different ways. First, it can take source text from typed input, email, instant messages and other sources and translate between 54 different languages. Next, it can provide high-quality spoken output for translations in 20 foreign languages, and it also has the ability of recognizing and translating foreign text captured by the iPad camera. Quanta sues AMD, claims it sold defective products

Yikes. Quanta -- also known as the planet's largest contract maker of laptops -- has just slapped a nasty lawsuit on the world's second-largest chipmaker. According to Bloomberg, Quanta is alleging that AMD and ATI sold chips that "didn't meet heat tolerances and were unfit for particular purposes." Those chips were then used in NEC-labeled machines, and caused them to "malfunction" in some regard. No big deal? Hardly. In the complaint, Quanta states that it has "suffered significant injury to prospective revenue and profits," and it's seeking a jury trial and damages for good measure. As if that weren't harsh enough, the suit also claims "breach of warranty, negligent misrepresentation, civil

While notebooks would be up to 432 million in this view, they would no longer have the clear advantage.

Today, hiking in the woods is much safer thanks to improved cellular coverage and smartphones with apps. PayPal's Scott Thompson becomes CEO of Yahoo; signing bonus probably stuck in a frozen account

Think you're having a good day? Try being Tim Morse, who was just relieved of the seemingly impossible task known as "being the Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo." After years of turmoil and bouts of bickering with Alibaba, Yahoo has just appointed Scott Thompson as its new CEO -- marking the introduction of a new year with the introduction of a new head honcho. Mr. Morse, who was standing in as interim CEO, will resume his role as Chief Financial Officer, and Thompson will become a member of the company's Board of Directors starting January 9th. Scott served most recently as President of PayPal, where -- so far as we can tell -- he did nothing to remove the draconian 'dispute' process that has jaded so many souls belonging to slighted eBa

Former Marine marches from battlefield to Apple accessory market

Devon Read spent five years in the Marines, serving in both Iraq and Africa. Now, the Golden, Colorado resident is a successful Apple accessory maker. He's a self-admitted Apple fan who wanted a protective case for his Apple devices, but couldn't find products that were fashionable, functional and affordable. Instead of waiting for that perfect product to hit the market, he and two of his friends decided to make their own. Read and his friends came up with the idea for Happy Owl Studios, after the iPad announcement and quickly designed their signature Wallet and Clutch bag. The Wallet is a slim bag that has room for your pocket change, credit cards, and mobile phone. The Clutch is a slightly bigger bag, designed primarily for the ladies. HP intros Omni 27 all-in-one, Pavilion HPE Phoenix h9 tower

If you thought HP would take a break after announcing seven all-in-ones last fall, you'd be sadly mistaken: the company just trotted out the Omni 27, its first model with a 27-inch display. In addition to that 1080p (non-touch) screen, it rocks the same Easel design as all those models HP introduced a few months back, which is to say it tilts a relatively modest 25 degrees. Other specs include dual- and quad-core Intel processors, up to 2TB of storage and Beats Audio (

HP outs Compaq L2311c docking monitor, LV1911 and LV2011 budget displays

The last time HP unveiled a monitor it was chasing gamers looking for a little 3D on a budget, but this time around, it's got business users on the brain. Specifically, the kind of workers who spend a lot of time away from the office, or perhaps share a workspace with others. That's the idea behind the 23-inch Compaq L2311c Notebook Docking Monitor, which connects to laptops via USB. That same cable will also transmit video, though even HP will admit you'll get far better results if you use USB 3.0 instead of 2.0. Taking a tour of the monitor itself, you'll find a four-port USB hub and VGA socket, along with a 720

Now called Magic Canvas, it'll work even on PCs without touchscreens, and it's going to ship on every HP tower and all-in-one, including already-announced models like this. The most significant improvement is that you can now access the Start Menu and all your Windows apps, even when you're imm

Apple denied attempt to keep info secret in Psystar case

Apple encountered its one and only setback in its court victory over Psystar Tuesday after Judge William Alsup ruled that it couldn't keep secret details about how Mac OS X worked. Apple couldn't order sealed documents about the boot-up checks to verify Mac OS X, its integrity checks, and its heat sensor management. Apple tried to argue that information it hadn't confirmed itself still had to be secret to avoid , but Alsup countered that trade secret laws couldn't be used simply to avoid confirmation of details already available in books and published code.

Google: Android 4.0 'Holo' theme to be mandatory on all devices with Android Market

Google is rightfully proud of its native theme in Ice Cream Sandwich. Dubbed Holo, it's intuitive, functional and -- dare we say it -- downright sexy. Now, in an effort to provide all users with a consistent interface, the company is making the theme essential for all Android 4.0 devices that come bundled with the Android Market. That's right, the stock, undiluted experience. Don't be alarmed, though, because manufacturer customizations aren't going anywhere, and the changes aren't terribly drastic. In fact, for users of Sense, TouchWiz and the like, Google is issuing architectural mandates that will make it dead simp

RC car modded with Arduino, controlled by iPad

This is great -- developer Wannes Vermeulen has hacked a toy remote control car with an Arduino board and hooked it up to an iPad to drive it around. You can see video of the project in action over on Vimeo right now. It's not anything too special these days, as you can buy lots of RC vehicles that are controlled with an iPad or an iPhone app, but as a DIY project, it's pretty amazing. There's actually an Android smartphone on the car itself to provide camera information and wifi access, and I believe, according to the description, that it also connects to a laptop, which then sends information to the iPad. So it's a pretty complicated setup, especially given that there are vehicles which will do this out of the box. But making it from all of these pi

Daily Mac App: Tab Launcher

For many people, it's kind of pointless to go searching for a Dock replacement. The Dock itself is one of the most attractive features of OS X and is actually one of the things that lured me into adopting Macs at home seven years ago. But when you have a smaller screen to work with, especially on a MacBook Air, space is a premium. This is where programs such as Tab Launcher come in. Currently on sale for US$.99, Tab Launcher organizes any type of file on a Mac into a tabbed group, then anchors that group to the side of the monitor. There's a number of options available, such as changing the tab's size, color, font and more. You can even tweak the individual icons on TabLauncher. Like the Dock, you can

The policy will make sure that hardware makers can update faster by keeping their theme separate from the OS and provide a consistent look for apps without having to continually adapt code.

The group robbed the store at around 2 AM on the second day of 2012 (possible Two-Face involvement?), but fortunately a taxi driver spotted the crime and started following the robbers away from the scene.
