iCab Mobile - derzeit wohl der beste Web Browser für’s iPhone
Wer unterwegs viel im Internet surfen muss oder möchte findet mit iCab einen Begleiter, welchen er schnell nicht mehr missen möchte. Zahlreiche Features machen diesen Browser zu einem (zumindest auf dem iPhone) “Safari Killer”.
Eines der hilfreichsten Features ist gerade für das mobile Surfen: “Formulare ausfüllen”. Mit dieser Funktion können z.B. Zugangsdaten zu Webseiten gespeichert und bei Bedarf per Knopfdruck automatisch ausgefüllt werden. Somit erspart man sich das lästige eintippen von Benutzernamen und Passwort (gerade bei Nutzung im Fahrzeug extrem hilfreich).
Der integrierte Download Manager ermöglicht es Dateien auf das iPhone zu laden und später auch auf den PC oder Mac zu überspielen.

Latest Snow Leopard upgrade reaching developers
Apple is seeding a new maintenance and security pre-release beta to developers, Mac OS X 10.6.3 Build 10D538.
As reported by AppleInsider, this build features, “an update to QuickTime X that, when finalized, will improve security and compatibility while simultaneously enhancing overall reliability."
The release will also include tweaks that aim to enhance the performance of Apple's 64-bit Logic pro audio suite. Other planned improvements include better compatibility with third-party printers and OpenGL-grounded applications.
Developers have been asked to test critical components including AirPort, VoiceOver and graphics drivers. An issue related to photo albums viewed via Front Row is the sole reported issue at this tim

Come see Apple's 27-year old tablet prototype...
This morning we’re liking the look of these images of an Apple tablet prototype from 27-years ago.
Dubbed ‘Bashful’, the computer was intended as an older brother for the Newton PDA. While it never made it to production prototype makers, Frog Design, (who also whipped up an Apple phone idea) has published some images.
Gizmodo notes: “Despite only being 27 years old, this gadget almost feels like an archeological find in comparison to what we think we might see in the upcoming tablet.” Head over to that site for a few more images.

If you are a Google Voice user, you can now now make calls directly from the browser
This is pretty cool. If you are using the latest builds of the Chrome browser for Mac with the ability to install Chrome extensions, you can now install Google Voice into your browser. It adds a little icon to the right of the URL/Search bar which lets you make cals/SMS/Check your messages.
Perhaps the best feature though, is that you can make calls directly from the browser - just like you can on your iPhone. Chrome will create a hyperlink on phone numbers it finds in the browser. The calls go through whicheve

Court case shocker: Judge rules in favor of Rambus, not Nvidia... sort of
Rambus, a company that has been in a long, drawn out legal battle with Nvidia over five patents for what seems like ages now, had some good news delivered to it late last week. A judge at the U.S. International Trade Commission issued a preliminary determination finding that Nvidia had indeed violated three of the five patents -- ruling that the other two had not been violated. Now, Nvidia says that the whole patent mystery continues to be a subject ripe for rexamination by the Patent and Trademark Office -- which has consistently found the claims of infringement to be invalid. PlayStation 3 nach über drei Jahren gehackt?
George Hotz, als Hacker besser bekannt als Geohot, behauptet nach über drei Jahren die PlayStation 3 erfolgreich gehackt zu haben. Apple patent application two-fer: new gesture inputs, solar-powered iPods?
We know it's been tough with the dearth of Apple-related speculation as of late, but it looks like we now finally have a few more clues about what the company might be up to courtesy of a pair of recently published patent applications. Apple Store Frankfurt: Erstes Resümee
Der Apple Store Frankfurt ist eröffnet und wird sich ab heute erstmal von dem Besucheransturm erholen können, bevor die Pforten am Montag wieder öffnen.
Apple war mit mehreren Mitarbeitern vor Ort vertreten, allen voran Steve Cano, der mit einer tollen Rede das kleine Presseevent eröffnete. Apple bietet nun in Frankfurt auf über 700 qm seine Produkte, mit Genius Bar, Help Desk und mehr. Es gab natürlich einen riesigen Andrang, die ersten Leute standen schon um 01:00 in der Tür.
Ganz besonders interessant ist, dass jeder Mac-Nutzer mit seinem Gerät vorbeikommen kann und unkompliziert Hilfe bekommen kann, egal ob das Gerät tatsächlich im Apple Store gekauft wurde.Auch eine Hausaufgabenbetreuung für Schulkinder wird es geben, sicher ein Konzept, das viele kleine Freunde finden wird.

Meizu iPhone clone's sequel to pack 1GHz CPU, 3G
Meizu chief J. Wong today told fans through a forum post of early details for the M8's sequel, tentatively named the M9. The early Chinese iPhone clone's new model should be slightly thinner and taller but will be more notable for its performance; it should carry a 1GHz ARM processor made by Samsung as well as 512MB of RAM. Previously hinted-at 3G is not only expected but should reach WCDMA networks (via HSPA), CDMA (EVDO) and TD-SCDMA at the same time, covering both China and and the world.

Palm crafting GSM versions of the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus?
Pardon us if we're playing the role of Captain Obvious here, but just a heads up: we've got some pretty solid evidence before our eyes that Palm has GSM versions of both Verizon's Pre Plus and Pixi Plus in the pipe. Said proof comes via the certification gurus at TUV Rheinland who've listed both a P101UNA and P121UNA in their systems from Palm; P101 and P121 are the numeric codes for the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, respectively, and "UNA" indicates a GSM variant (versus the deliciously underhanded "EWW" for CDMA). Google-Gründer wollen Anteile in Milliardenhöhe verkaufen
Das Thema Google polarisierte in den letzten Wochen insbesondere durch seine strittige Marktposition, Kritiker wehren sich gegen ein mögliches Informationsmonopol. Nun teilte Google der US-Börsenaufsicht SEC mit, dass die Google-Gründer Sergey Brin und Larry Page einen Teil ihrer Aktien verkaufen wollen.Demnach planen beide circa fünf Millionen Aktien, also insgesamt zehn Millionen Aktien, in den kommenden fünf Jahren im Gesamtwert von 5,5 Milliarden Dollar (3,9 Milliarden Euro) zu veräußern. Die Google-Gründer besitzen so genannte Klasse-B-Aktien, die zum Großteil mit Stimmrechten verbunden sind. HTC leaking bad intel, playing dangerous game of counter-espionage?
Leaky faucets? Hate 'em. Leaked gadgets? We love those dearly, but a rather compelling accusation is giving us pause over some of the juiciest: those from HTC. The claim is that HTC has made a "controled [sic] leak of some devices," incorrect infos revealed by the company itself, designed to throw us all off the scent. Bildergalerie zur Eröffnung des Apple Store Fankfurt
Für neun Uhr war bereits die Presse eingeladen, um 11 Uhr eröffnete dann der dritte deutsche Apple Store. Apple setzte auch diesmal auf großen Personalaufwand. 100 Beschäftigte arbeiten im Apple Store Frankfurt, zu Anfang war der Großteil dieser mit blauen T-Shirts bekleideten Mitarbeiter damit beschäftigt, die Besucher laut jubelnd zu begrüßen. Watch out, Earthlings -- Ariete's 2,400 watt Auto-Lift iron is just a Stateside-release away from being Anthony Sullivan's next big hit. The concept here is pretty simple (and pretty genius): users have to physically press down on the iron to make it touch whatever piece of wrinkled clothing is beneath, and as soon as they release pressure, the iron pops up to prevent accidental charring. Microsoft merges Zune software, Xbox teams
Microsoft today acknowledged it has undertaken a major shift in its Entertainment and Devices group. Following the departure of corporate VP Enrico Rodriguez, the company is merging Windows Media Center and Zune software groups into the same Interactive Entertainment Business group that handles the Xbox as well as all gaming. Kindle's active content given 100KB free monthly bandwidth allowance
We were wondering how Kindle's impending active content (read: apps) would be harnessing that free Whispernet bandwidth. As it turns out, there's just a smidgen allowed for gratis. According to the terms laid out by Amazon, there's a 70 / 30 revenue split, with that smaller percentage going to Bezos and co. "net of delivery fees of $0.15 / MB." The site has of course been mainly trafficking Palm's webOS devices -- the Pre and Pixi -- as of late, but until very recently, it still listed its last non-webOS device, the Window Mobile Treo Pro, a much older phone first outed in August of 2008. Mac OS X 10.6.3 build brings 64-bit Logic, QuickTime tweaks
Apple has seeded a third beta build of the upcoming Mac OS X 10.6.3 update, which currently offers enhancements related to QuickTime X and Logic, according to AppleInsider. The beta version, build number 10D538, includes an updated version of QuickTime X that will reportedly increase security while improving compatibility and reliability.

Not so fast: testing finds world's first LTE network isn't very 4G-ish
In a rather disappointing example of "your mileage may vary," market research firm Northstream has put TeliaSonera's shiny new LTE network -- the world's first to go commercial -- to the test, coming away with some disappointing conclusions. The bottom line is that they never managed to go above about 12Mbps downstream, a pretty wild figure considering that Ericsson is in the process of rolling out 84 purely theoretical megabits per second right now using plain old HSPA+ for 3 Scandinavia. Turtle 5.1 ships for Maya 2010, Vectorworks 2010 in Japan
Nemetschek North America has announced that its Vectorworks 2010 product line is now available in Japan. The CAD utilities include Vectorworks Designer, Architect, Fundamentals and Renderworks. The 2010 edition, first introduced in September, brings a variety of enhancements including a unified 2D/3D view, a dimensional constraint manager, and a new Select Similar tool, among other improvements.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset's P2P bill drops from $2m to $54k
Judge Michael Davis in a decision today shrunk the $1.92 million penalty against Jammie Thomas-Rasset for her alleged music copyright infringement. The change stops short of exonerating Thomas-Rasset but asks a much lower $54,000 in total for the 24 shared songs, or $2,250 per song. In the ruling, Judge Davis also accused the music labels that began the case of asking for a disproportionate sum of money; the requested amount has to "bear some relation" to what was actually lost, he said.
